ASTA to Offer Professional Development Workshop

ASTA is pleased to offer a professional development workshop, Differentiated Instruction, a highly-effective and student-centered teaching concept. This program is a two-day conference on Friday March 11th and Saturday March 12th from 9:00am-3:30pm at the Dawson Co-op (711 Clinton St., Suite 201, Arkadelphia).

Differentiated Instruction recognizes and utilizes the fact that all students are different. Teachers who plan for classes full of diverse learners and work to address these differences are masters of pedagogy and will see results from their efforts. Training for Differentiated Instruction focuses on student assessment, learning profiles, tiered activities, curriculum compacting, learning contracts, independent study, flexible grouping, anchor activities, learning centers/stations, problem-based learning, and project-based learning.

ASTA will provide workshop attendees with the DI training manual, breakfast, lunch, and refreshments during the conference. The trainer asks that all teachers bring materials for note taking and a lesson plan or two which they would be interested in differentiating.

The average cost for a two-day training on this scale is approximately $300. However, the training is FREE to all ASTA members. And non-ASTA members are charged $30 to cover the cost of materials and meals. ASTA will also reimburse for all substitutes for our members, up to $50.00 per substitute.

The application deadline is March 1. Space is limited to 50 participants.

If you have any questions, please contact Jill Newell, Director of Professional Development, at 877.385.6264 or jill@aaeteachers.org.

ASTA is authorized by the Arkansas Department of Education (ADE) to provide professional development.
